The International Biochar Initiative (IBI)

The IBI is a consortium of research, commercial, and policy-oriented institutions and people devoted to the sustainability of the world’s soils, and to sustainable bioenergy production. IBI provides a platform for the international exchange of information and activities in support of biochar research, development, demonstration, and commercialization.

The biochar production process converts agricultural and forestry wastes into bioenergy, and a charcoal-like product (“biochar”) that can revitalize and restore soils. Biochar systems are “carbon-negative,” thus offeringa tool to help solve global climate change.
